Parkinson's Disease
The challenges
Living with Parkinson’s can feel really difficult, and many clients find it hard to come to terms with the changes in their life. A common challenging experience for people living with Parkinson’s is the feeling of ‘not being in control of their body’. It can be a huge change for someone who has felt physically capable and coordinated their whole life, to increasingly experience uncoordinated movements. Often, people find they develop shortened fast steps in walking to counter the reduction in coordination and stiffening of the body’s joints. It is quite common for the entire spine to lack full rotation, making what used to be normal, everyday tasks more difficult.
However, it is absolutely possible for people with Parkinson’s to live a full and enriching life.

ABOUT PARKINSON'S
Parkinson's is a progressive nervous system disorder that varies in intensity of symptoms with a unique presentation for each client. Recent research by specialists in the field state it is strongly associated with long periods of stress and long-term exposure to environmental toxins.
What is known is that the physical root of this disorder is in the brain cells that produce dopamine – a chemical messenger that supports smooth coordinated movement and motivation, these cells start dying off.
Recent research is showing that it affects people in the 40’s onwards and it is not ’the old man’s disease’ as it was once considered to be. There is still a lot that is unknown about this disease, but areas of new and innovative research are exploring the immune system and hormonal effects on the body.
Within our clinic, we offer an incredible amount of care for our clients. Treatment includes the best evidence-based and new innovative research to support people experiencing Parkinson’s disease.
Many of our clients living with Parkinson’s live very full and active lives through detailed care and management of their disorder.
CONNECTIVE TISSUE
Kate, our head physiotherapist, has specialised for over 20 years in working with the connective tissue of the body. It is our connective tissue that allows the coordinated movement of our joints and muscles. Our connective tissue is the main tissue that supports us with smooth, rhythmical movements as well as our overall vitality. The smooth movement is specifically supported by the connective tissue’s natural sliding and gliding movement within our tissues.
