Chronic Pain
divider

In Australia, 1 in 5 people live with chronic pain, this includes adolescents and children. What is scary is that this prevalence rises to 1 in 3 people over the age of 65. This means that approximately one person in every family suffers with chronic pain. Even simple tasks like getting out of bed, brushing your teeth, putting your shoes on, and getting dressed can become difficult.

Is chronic pain limiting how much you can engage in life?

In the last 15 years of research in chronic musculoskeletal pain, it has been shown that chronic pain is a complex, multifactorial condition. Meaning treatment of chronic pain needs to be addressed in many ways, and on many levels. This includes physical, emotional, stress, nutritional, and also social factors.

“As a Physiotherapist specialising in chronic pain, I have found that most people affected by chronic pain also have a degree of systemic inflammation, and this makes them very sensitive to a lot of traditional physiotherapy treatment. It is common for people living with chronic pain to have a bad reaction to treatment if their practitioner doesn’t understand the complexity of how chronic pain works. This can result in patients becoming bedridden with pain and fatigue for days afterwards. It can be very demoralising, feeling like you can’t live with the chronic pain, but you also can’t receive treatment for it. Chronic pain needs a specialised approach by someone who understands the complexities and is skilled in treating not only the symptoms, but the underlying condition.”

My body has needed support via physiotherapy at various times in my life, however, it wasn't until Kate Greenaway started treating me that things changed. I have found the gentleness of the Connective Tissue way of treating conditions way more supportive than the hard push that seems to be the norm elsewhere. Kate has been super encouraging when teaching me to exercise gently with the Connective Tissue approach and its specific exercises to develop stability and strength while rebuilding the body’s core strength in all areas. Connective Tissue treatment and exercises under Kate's guidance have made a way more noticeable difference in my mobility, wellbeing and subsequent enjoyment of life. It works. What more can I say!

Kate is such a compassionate, deeply caring Physiotherapist, who truly listens and cares for people. Kate knows the body very well, with all its intricate workings and design. She explains everything so simply and clearly and treats the body as a whole, not just in parts. I love how each one of her specific techniques has such a gentle return of movement that I have found extremely effective. As a result of seeing Kate on various occasions, I can now feel more space in my body, instead of the denseness and pain I used to feel. Since knowing her, I have built a deeper, more solid relationship with my body and its posture. I deeply value and appreciate Kate and the work she offers, and I highly recommend her to anyone, she is a very supportive Physiotherapist, that made a huge difference to my body in how I live and move today.

I have been seeing Kate Greenaway for almost 2 years now for lower back and hip pain and vestibular migraine. Kate has supported me with connective tissue therapy in addition to various physiotherapy exercises that have helped immensely with pain management and sleep. She is incredibly intuitive and her ability to read the body and determine the underlying cause is remarkable. She is deeply caring and very down to earth. Highly, highly recommend!

I have been working closely with Kate for many years to support me with several issues with my neck, back and hips. Kate's specialised and precise support has been invaluable! She has always listened carefully and understood my concerns with whichever part of the body I had difficulties and pain. Kate has given me specific exercises to do which alleviated the chronic pain I was experiencing and allows me to move easily in my day. The chronic pain in my neck continues to remain controlled with Kate's support and with the exercises I do. Furthermore, the pain in my hips is also controlled because of the exercises Kate has given me, otherwise I would have required major surgery many years ago. It is an absolute joy working with Kate!

I injured my back a few months ago and was in a lot of pain and had limited mobility. Then I started seeing Kate Greenaway for Physiotherapy treatment.By this stage I was very fearful of reinsuring my back and so quite protective. Kate's treatment was gentle and yet extremely supportive instilling trust and gradually more confidence in my body.Massage and connective tissue release slowly and patiently(Kate's very patient) lessened my pain and increased mobility. Her knowledge of the mechanics and anatomy of the body is fantastic and my body has strengthened through the exercises given and correction of my posture. I'm feel very fortunate that I found Kate and would highly recommend her.

The physio (Kate) at this hub is excellent. I have seen her for a number of treatments for my knees and recently for my feet. Each time she has done connective tissue therapy and offered exercises to do at home. The combination of treatment especially the connective tissue therapy has been extremely helpful in healing the pain in my knees and feet. Highly recommended.

Kate’s sessions are simple, practical and very healing for the body. She has supported me to stay in check with a harmoniously moving body and has shown me simple but powerful exercises that I can bring into my day to day at home or work to support how I am moving on a daily basis. A session with Kate extends far beyond the session room. I would not be as strong, wise and aware of my body and how it all works without Kate and her wealth of wisdom about the body.
